Position Overview: Applications are being accepted for a Towson University 12-month non-tenure track Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in the Towson University – Community College of Baltimore County (TU-CCBC) collaborative Physician Assistant Program, to begin August 2013. The successful candidate is expected to possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, experience in program and/or curriculum development and evaluation, and commitment to ongoing clinical excellence. Responsibilities will include: key participation in curriculum planning and in program development and evaluation; classroom teaching; student advising; engagement in scholarly activities; and a commitment to service to the University, program and community. This one-year renewable clinical faculty position is the Towson University faculty member representative to this collaborative program, based on the CCBC-Essex campus. Salary is competitive; this position includes the State benefits package.

Qualifications: NCCPA certified Physician Assistants are eligible to apply. Minimum of master’s degree; certification or eligibility for certification in Maryland; minimum of one year of recent experience in academic or clinical teaching; two years of clinical practice as a physician assistant. Candidates who wish to be considered for appointment at the rank of Clinical Associate Professor must meet all requirements for promotion to the clinical associate professor rank at Towson University.

The PA Program: The program has 5 full-time faculty and several part-time faculty, and is offered full-time year-round in a 26-month format. Thirty-five students are admitted annually. After a first year of largely didactic study, students complete clinical rotations in medicine, family practice, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, community medicine, and surgery, as well as an elective rotation and a primary care preceptorship.

•    Be an active member of the MPAS Program faculty through collaboration and organizational development within the department and with other programs in the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health as well as supporting MPAS faculty research efforts, attending MPAS faculty meetings and retreats, and participating in University- and School-wide interprofessional research efforts.

Requirements: A masters or doctorate in a relevant field with experience in research, as well as in higher education, healthcare professions education or profession based research, is required. Must have the ability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research studies and evaluation.  Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of publishing academic articles, and working with graduate students and faculty. Experience in securing grants preferred.

Previous experience teaching in an academic or medical setting strongly preferred as is experience in research or graduate level project oversight. Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, must demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge and skills necessary in working with researchers and healthcare practitioners for the delivery of quality, patient centered care by PAs. Previous PA program development and ARC-PA accreditation experience is highly desirable. The applicant should have: strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, demonstrated leadership and management experience, and some teaching experience. The applicant should be knowledgeable about PA programs (fiscal management, planning, development) as well as the accreditation process for PA programs.
